Урок англійської мови: Харчування. Моя улюблена страва.

Мета: активізувати вживання в мові учнів тематичної лексики; практикувати учнів в аудіюванні, розвивати навички діалогічного мовлення, монологічного спонтанного мовлення, тренувати в читанні текстів; ознайомити зі звичаями і традиціями української та англійської кухні; тренувати учнів працювати в парах і малих групах; розвивати творчу уяву; виховувати в учнів інтерес до країни, мова якої вивчається.

Oбладнання: малюнки, роздатковий матеріал (завдання, тексти).

Introducing the topic.

I think you know such English proverb: "Live not to eat but eat to live". Today we are going to continue to discuss the topic: "Food and Drinks". Of course, you have already learnt some facts and details but I think that during our lesson you will know some new information about traditional English and Ukrainian meals. You will listen and read some interesting texts about them, make up and dramatize dialogues, practice speaking.

The pupils are offered a text about the hot dog. Before listening the pupils may be asked what they know about hot dogs, are they tasty.

You all know that hot dog is one of the most popular foods in the world. It looks very simple – just a sausage put between the two parts of a long bun. It is a very tasty and fast snack. It first appeared in Germany where sausages are national food. People wanted to be able to have a sausage on a piece of bread, and so the hot dogs came to life. At first, they were not called "hot dogs". They had a German name after a dog with a very long body and very short legs. An American once drew a cartoon about those sausages for a newspaper. He did not know how to spell the German word, so he called that sausage "a hot dog". The name has become very popular, and we have known this tasty food as "hot dogs" since then.

After listening the pupils should try to retell the text using their own words and render the main ideas.

Read and say why "sandwich" is called so.

The Earl of Sandwich was an Englishman. He lived in in the 18th century. He was fond of playing cards so much that people knew him to be the greatest player in London. He played cards during the day and even didn't stop for his games at night. He remained at the table for 24 hours a day and even didn't stop for meals. His servant usually brought him some slices of meat and bread. So he was able to continue playing while eating.

It happened that the Earl of Sandwich put the meat between the bread and in this way invented a new dish. People began to call it "sandwich" after this man.
